Interview: Alexis Bledel Picks “The Good Guy”

February 16th, 2010 • By • News

We’re sitting in Beverly Hills at a hotel chatting with beautiful, blue-eyed brunette Alexis Bledel. You probably first met her as Rory Gilmore in “The Gilmore Girls” or followed her to Greece in The Traveling Pants movies. Now you can see her as a completely modern young New York career gal choosing between two guys in The Good Guy.

Ever feel trapped by your relationship? Is he and only he in control?  Do you always go for the wrong type when the great guys are right there…ignored by you? Then you’ll totally identify with Alexis’ character Beth as she must choose between hot, ambitious Tommy (Scott Porter of TV’s “Friday Night Lights”), and tall, handsome, sweet Daniel (Bryan Greenberg of “One Tree Hill” and the movie Bride Wars).

Alexis is wearing a cute dress off the rack at H&M and we got her to talk about modern relationships, why women pick guys who are maybe too much in charge  and how she enjoyed that fact that the film is very “real”, even including a romantic love scene break to reach for a condom!

Alexis verified there will be no more “Traveling Pants” films and we talked about her very different upcoming role as a young woman living in the 1800’s in The Conspirator

Q: Tommy and Daniel are almost polar opposites as guy types. Why do you think Beth originally goes for Tommy?

Alexis: At the beginning she has a pretty clear idea in her head about what she’s looking for in a man. I think when she meets Tommy he’s got everything she’s looking for and she’s really happy about that and she’s falling for him. But she can’t quite see (the real) him because of this ideal that she has.

So when she meets Daniel he’s probably got none of the things that she’s looking for. At first she doesn’t know what to make of him. I don’t think she meets a lot of guys like him so I think she’s really curious and as they develop a friendship she can’t figure him out. She wants to know more and that’s kind of how they start to get close.

Q: In this film, Scott Porter’s character Tommy sure isn’t who we think he is. Do you think we should end up feeling sorry for him as your character Beth does?

Alexis: I don’t think that I’ve ever actually said to someone, ‘I feel sorry for you.’ And at that point I think she’s wanting to hurt him. I think she’s trying not to be unkind. Maybe there’s nothing left to say at that point and that’s just what comes out.

So it was really an interesting scene, I’m not one to tell people what they should feel. I think you should feel whatever you feel at that point, after watching the film.

Action Hero? ‘To Play One Would Be Amazing’

February 15th, 2010 • By • News

Alexis Bledel may not be known for her karate moves or superpowers, but the star said she wouldn’t mind strapping on the spandex on screen.

“I actually love action movies,” she told AccessHollywood.com during the junket for her latest film, “The Good Guy,” at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. “I don’t think there are enough female action heroes. One of my favorites is Carrie-Anne Moss in ‘The Matrix’ — so I would love to see more characters like that in film in general and to play one would be amazing.”

While she did star in comic book-turned-film “Sin City” in 2005, Alexis said one of her past “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” co-stars won’t need her help in bringing another comic to life.

“No, she knows what she’s doing, she doesn’t need my advice at all,” Alexis laughed of Blake Lively, who will star alongside Ryan Reynolds in 2011’s “Green Lantern.”
But as for her current film, Alexis was happy to play a more normal role in “The Good Guy” – a New Yorker settling in on her career and romantic options, which include Scott Porter and Bryan Greenberg vying for her affections.

“I just really responded to this script,” she said. “You read so many romantic stories that kind of follow a formula, so this one was different, and when I talked to [director] Julio [DePietro] about it before signing on, he had a clear idea of the movie he wanted to make and that was really encouraging.”

And while Porter and Greenberg may have a rivalry on film, she said there was no competition between the two actors on the set. “No,” she laughed. “Nothing like that.”

With Valentine’s Day coming up this weekend, Alexis was thankful she hadn’t had to deal with any real-life love triangles.

“I’ve played this love triangle situation several times but I’ve never experienced it in real life,” she said. “It seems like an unlikely thing to have happen to most people.”

Up next, Alexis has a pair of movies on the way– “The Conspirator,” directed by Robert Redford, and an indie film called “The Kate Logan Affair.”
“Two people meet, an accident occurs and they end up on the road together,” she said of “The Kate Logan Affair,” adding that their journey comes to a tragic end.

One more film that might be on her plate? A long-rumored big-screen version of “Gilmore Girls,” which Alexis said she’d strongly consider if it ever came to pass.

“I really loved our series finale, I thought it tied up the story beautifully. I thought it came full circle,” she said. “I don’t know what story there is left to tell but I would be open to reading a script. I’d be curious to read a script!”

Gilmore Girls Movie?

February 15th, 2010 • By • General

Alexis Bledel mesmerizes with her piercing blue eyes at a press junket for her new film, The Good Guy at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles on Thursday (February 11).

At the junket, the 28-year-old actress was asked if she would star in a Gilmore Girls movie. “I don’t know what story is left to tell,” Alexis told E!’s Marc Malkin. “But I’d very curious to read a script.”

As for her character Rory being a mother by now, Alexis shared, “Oh my god—a baby bump! Could you imagine? I actually always thought they were going to do that in the series. Since Lorelai got pregnant early, I thought my character was supposed to get pregnant early because she had all these boyfriends. Rory always had boyfriends.”
